A group of people cut a red ribbon, celebrating an event.
April 1 was an exciting day for Boerne ISD. With help from the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce, the District held 4 ribbon cuttings for newly renovated elementary school libraries. That afternoon, community members, students, and staff, gathered to commemorate the opening of Samuel V. Champion High School’s classroom addition to the existing HS campus.

Kendall Elementary, Cibolo Creek Elementary, Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary, and Curington Elementary students will have access to completely remodeled libraries that include not only books and spaces for traditional learning, but maker’s spaces where students can get creative and use new technologies that complement their learning, such as 3D printers.

Superintendent Kristin Craft shared that, “By investing in our legacy campuses and equipping them with the resources they need to take student learning ot the next level, we are setting them on a path for success. We are so grateful that our community shared in the District’s vision for the 2022 Bond program, and we are proud to show them what their tax dollars are doing for our students. We’re excited to celebrate these spaces with our partners from the Chamber, and we thank Kim Blohm and her team for hosting so many celebrations for us in one day!”

The afternoon culminated in District-hosted ribbon cutting at Champion. Trustee Dallas Pipes gave comments and commended the school for helping students be future-oriented. “The things students will learn to do in this space are extraordinary, and align with the kind of person Sam Champion was. While I wasn’t able to meet him while he was alive, I hear so many stories about the qualities he brought to Boerne. This space is a testament to that, and it will inspire every student who learns here. If you’re going to be anything, be a Champion.”

These construction projects, which were part of Bond 2022, came in on schedule and under budget. To date, the District has paid back almost a quarter of Bond 2022 – cutting the estimated loan repayment window from 30 years to approximately 10.
