Champion High School Theatre has been named the 2025 UIL Area Champions. The ensemble competed at the 5-A Area One-Act Play competition on Saturday, April 12, performing scenes from Anna Kareninaby Helen Edmundson, a play adapted from the novel by Leo Tolstoy. The Champion Theatre production was selected as the top Advancing Play in the Area. This is the fourth time in the last five years the program has been named Area Champions, and the group will go on to compete at the Regional Contest on Friday, April 25, at Southwest High School in San Antonio. Two schools from the Regional competition will advance to the State contest in May where 8 schools will compete for the State Championship. Out of approximately 437 schools that entered the statewide contest this spring, Champion is now one of only 24 schools remaining in the tournament. The Champion Theatre program hopes to make its third appearance at the State Contest in the last four years; appearances that included a State Championship in 2022 and third place honors in 2023. The UIL One-Act Play contest was established in 1931. Created to spotlight and promote the theatrical arts in Texas public schools, it is the largest high school play production contest in the world.
